Chrisitansburg Printing’s annual appointments calendar is out and features, this year, Floyd artisans, including Gibby Waitzkin, Pat Woodruff, Tara Hale, Cheryl Sweeney Bill Bell and this reporter.
They selected three of my photographs for this year’s use, although those who pick up the free calendar at various locations around the New River Valley will not know that two of the photographs are mine.
The photographer for the cover shot, taken as dawn was breaking over the valleys near Willis, is not identified in the calendar and a shot of a full, setting, harvest moon (above) over Buffalo Mountain Road is featured for January but Don Johnson is incorrectly identified as the photographer.
Don is a damn fine photographer and shoots landscapes that are far prettier than anything I produce but that full moon shot is one that I’m particularly proud of and he didn’t shoot it.
Oh well. They did use a shot of a firey red sunset along the Blue Ridge Parkway for August and I was correctly identified for that photo.
Kudos to Tara Hale for putting the project togetherand to Christiansburg Printing for featuring the county. It was nice to see Floyd artists and photographers get the attention — even with the errors.
great shot. thanks again for your photos
It looks so heavy, as though it might fall but not break.
Well, i think getting credit for your photographs does matter. And i’ll tell you why. You capture ‘my’ Floyd in your pictures. My Floyd is sacred and beautiful, fierce and serene. I’ve looked at the sky 10,000 times from these mountains, but somehow you manage to catch the sky in such a way that one can feel it’s vastness and ever changing power. One of my favorite songwriters, Bruce Cockburn says, “It’s not the things that you look at but the way that you see.” You have a special way of seening. I think alot of us who have been enjoying your work, thank you.
What? You mooned the entire county?
That was quite cheeky of you.
(Har har har…)
