Last year, we pointed out that the official "Blue Ridge Parkway and Travel Planner," published by the Blue Ridge Parkway Association in Asheville, didn’t know how to spell Galax.
The map in the centerfold of the directory spelled it "Galex." We received a reply from the association thanking us for our eagle eye along with a promise that it would be fixed in this year’s edition.
They lied. The "60th Edition" of the guide, available at stops along the Parkway and from the Association, contains the same map with the same misspelling of "Galax." Pick up a copy and check it out. The center spread is on pages 44-45.
You gotta wonder who’s running the show down there in Asheville.
I haven’t seen this Travel Planner. Just wondering if they also spelled Hillsville “Hillsvul”? It’s obvious the mapmaker didn’t graduate from Galax High School.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it’s intentional? I read that mapmakers often put in deliberate mistakes in order to be able to tell copyright infringement. I like to think the best of people. So many morons about…
…especially since they acknowledged the mistake last year and promised to fix it. Also, the map is available for download from their web site.
