Floyd has a gay pride march set for Saturday.

Wolf Cherrix says the second annual march hopes to draw more participants this year because the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Virginia’s ban on gay marriage and because polls show growing acceptance of gay marriage and equality.

Although a stay of the decision is in place, some gay couples in Floyd also urged the Floyd County clerk Friday to accept applications for gay marriage.

Participants in Saturday’s march are scheduled to appear at the Post Office in Floyd Saturday afternoon.  The march is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will conclude at Warren Lineberry Park on Locust Street, followed by a rainbow flag raising.

A dance at Dogtown Roadhouse is scheduled for 5 p.m. and then a Community Potluck and Pizza “Extravaganza in the community room at Jesse Peterman Library and then a talk, “Affirming Transgender People,” by Dr. Chloe Schwenke, starting at 7.
