In a driving rain that also soaked homecoming festivities before a crowd huddled under umbrellas, Floyd County High School’s Buffaloes notched their first win of the season with a 44-0 thumping of Patrick County Friday night.
In a game that started with a safety against Patrick County, the Buffaloes controlled the waterlogged game throughout, falling on a fumble for a touchdown at one point, scoring with no time left at the end of the first half for a score of 23-0 and delivering point after point under deluge conditions.
Patrick County ended a 21-game losing streak last week against Chatham and hoped to turn things around this week but didn’t even come close.
Attendants and candidates for homecoming queen took a shorter than march than normal during halftime but rain did not deter the game or the festivities. The homecoming dance is scheduled for Saturday night at the high school.
