The Artists Table restaurant, launched with hope and fanfare last Spring as a replacement in the space that went empty when tax problems put Natasha’s out the door at 227 North Locust Street in Floyd, closed quietly last weekend.

“Thank you for your patronage,” reads a sign on the door. “The Artists Table closed on Saturday, September 13, 2014.”

That was all: No advance notice, no details, no reasons. The closing was also mentioned at the Town Board meeting on Thursday.

Morgan Ohland of Spikenard Farms established The Artists Table LLC earlier this year right about the time tax problems put Natasha’s out of business in March.  Others were partners too.

Natalie Shishkevish, owner of Natasha’s, was indicted for embezzlement by a Floyd County Grand Jury on June 2 and faces her next hearing in Circuit Court on November 18.  When funds intended for taxes are used for other purposed, local and state governments consider such use as embezzlement.
