For the Floyd County High School Buffaloes varsity football team, Friday night’s cold rain wasn’t the worst part of a 48-12 drubbing by the Giles Spartans at home.

Dismay came early with the Spartans scoring on the opening possession and then piling up the points to a 42-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Buffaloes avoided a shutout with a late score just before the half but the lead was too much and the outcome matched the weather.

Floyd ends its regular season next Friday with a home game against Auburn.
