Floyd County High School’s varsity basketball Buffaloes led a tough Glenvar into the half Thursday night before a senior night crowd, fell behind in the third quarter and battled back to tie the game at the end of regulation but then fell 57-54 in overtime.
The Three Rivers District game puts the Buffaloes at 7-2 in district play and still faces powerhouse Radford a week from Friday. Glenvar beat Radford earlier this month.
For the first half, the Buffaloes took the lead early in the first quarter with strong shooting at the three-point line and defense. The Buffs lead 28-22 but Glenvar dominated the third quarter with a 13-2 run and did not have a field goal until 2:04 was left on the the period clock. They cut the lead to 35-34.
A three-pointer by Michael Osborne put the game in overtime with for seconds left and both squads fought hard in the extra period.
Floyd’s JV team, however, opened the night with a 36-20 win.
