The snow forecast to move into the area by late afternoon showed up early and starting covering the area after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, “snow squalls” that could bring 1-2 inches of snow and even thunder and lightning, are hitting the area.

And temperatures will start dropping from around 25 down to 20 degrees by 4 p.m., 14 by 6 p.m. and 5 degrees by midnight. Expect zero by 5 a.m. and three below zero around 7 a.m. with a wind chill of -22 degrees.

The high Thursday?  Oh, only three or maybe four degrees at most before the thermometer heads down again to -9 degrees or worse by 7 a.m. Friday.

The twice-delayed first round conference tournament basketball game between the Floyd County High School and Giles was postponed for the third time Wednesday and now tentatively scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m, weather permitting.
