A short break from sports over the next few days and time to concentrate on listening to and film the area’s musical offerings.
Gravel Road, one of the young groups focusing on the style of music so prominent in our area, releases a new CD at an event Saturday afternoon as part of Americana Afternoon at the Floyd Country Store.
Featuring young musicians from Floyd and the New River Valley, Gravel Road showcases continuation of the musical heritage of Floyd County and the surrounding area. These up-and-coming musical artists give the area a bright future for the traditional music of the past.
With Spring coming, music will blossom on stage at The Friday Night Jamboree and on the streets of Floyd. The Chantilly Bluegrass Festival is fast approaching in May and the summer brings FloydFest, the Galax Fiddler’s Convention and so much more.
So tune up your instruments, get in key, and start playing. My project of archiving the music of the area is 10 years old now and continuing.
The hills are alive with the sound of music. Time to join in.
