Relaxing life in the country, right?

Wrong.

Had a lot of things on my calendar this weekend:  The auto show at Chantilly, the arrival of Norfolk & Western’s iconic 611 locomotive in Roanoke, participation in a motorcycle themed commercial on the Parkway and shooting the Region 2 Conference 38 softball playoffs at Floyd County High School.

Weather rearranged everything.  The softball playoffs were scheduled for Thursday and Friday but a sudden, hard-driving rain storm drowned out the semi-final playoff game between the Lady Buffs of Floyd and the Giles County Spartans Thursday in the bottom of the first with Floyd leading 4-0.

The game picked up on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Lady Buffs winning 17-0 but that pushed the conference final to Saturday at 11 a.m., which meant canceling participation in the motorcycle commercial shot by Dave Perry.

By the time the game ended with Floyd losing 5-0 and the time spent putting the photos online meant it was too late to make either the arrival of 611 at the former train station in Roanoke or the auto show at Chantilly.  So was a trip to the auto show so I crashed on the couch until morning.

With luck, I can make the auto show Sunday and shoot photos but there is a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms hitting the area shortly before noon, which means arrive early and hope that enough cars, motorcycles and vendors are still around to be visual.

This morning, my old body feels older than normal and tired, and we open the week Monday with two straight days of court and the state track meet in Radford on Friday and Saturday.

Somebody once said something about “no rest for the wicked.”  They weren’t lying.  But I love it, which raises questions about sanity but that’s been raised before and will be again. 🙂
