Slurry mess at U.S. 221 and Harvestwood just over three miles from Floyd.

Earlier this month we were promised fixes to the incredibly poor resurfacing job by Slurry Paving of Richmond on U.S. 221 from Christiansburg Pike north to Roger Road.

The company arrived back last week and “finished up” at the beginning of this week.

The result?  More of the same.  Rough surfaces, places where the surface is coming apartment, uneven places where the lanes meet and a generally poor job.

At 221 and Harvestwood Road, the surface is uneven and appears to be coming apart.  Just south of the intersection are sections where the lanes don’t come together properly and the road is, for the most part, rough.

Is this the best the Virginia Department of Transportation can do on the primary U.S. highway in Floyd County?

One of the contract inspectors for the project says slurry should never be used on a high traffic highway with heavy trucks, which exactly describes U.S. 221 in Floyd County.

VDOT owes Floyd Countians an explanation and an apology.

This pavement was put down three days ago and is already coming apart.
