Floyd Yoga Jam made the list of tourism grantees from the Virginia Tourism Corporation Marketing Leverage Program announced Monday by Gov. Terry McAuliffe in a stop in Abingdon Monday.
The $2,500 grant to Yoga Jam must be matched 2-1 from local organization and was part of $796,000 awarded Monday.
McAuliffe, speaking in Abingdon, said:
Programs like this will continue to diversify the economy in this region and attract visitors and jobs to these communities. When we invest in our tourism businesses, we are helping to build a new Virginia economy and make the commonwealth the best place to live, work and raise a family.
Tourism generated $22.4 billion in revenue, supported 217,000 jobs and provided $1.5 billion in state and local taxes in Virginia in 2014, says Maurice Jones, the Old Dominion’s secretary of commerce and trade.
He added:
The tourism industry is a key economic driver in the commonwealth, supporting thousands of jobs and bringing businesses and visitors to see all Virginia has to offer.
The grant program is part of the “Virginia is for Lovers” marketing campaign.
