When Floyd County High School’s Buffaloes sports teams meet the Radford Bobcats, the fur flies.  Radford is tough and a perennial rival.

The the Junior Varsity Buffs Wednesday night in Radford, the Bobcats seemed to have their way for most of the game, leading more than once with double scores like 32 to 16 in the second quarter but the Buffs kept chipping away at the lead and went into the final seconds of a thrilling game training by just one point, 71-70 until a late basket by Radford put it away for a final of 73-70.

Not so for the Varsity.  The Buffaloes fell behind 23-10 in the first quarter, played closer in the second but still trailed the Bobcats 33-21 at the half.  Quinton Morton-Robertson of Radford had 24 points as Radford won 70-33.

Cayden Sutphin led Floyd scoring with 12 points, followed by John Bary with 6.

On the winning side, The Lady Buffaloes beat Radford 75-33 for Seniors’ Night in Floyd Tuesday night with Abi Belshan adding 31 points with Michaela Thompson and Elizabeth Quesenberry score 11 each.

The Lady Buffs JV won as well.

Sadly, I had to miss that game because of a conflicting assignment to cover the Floyd County Board of Supervisors meeting.
