With a decisive 63-46 regional win over Chatham before an appreciative hometown crowd at Floyd County High School Wednesday night, the Lady Buffaloes earned a return trip to the Region 2A state quarterfinals.
Abi Belshan’s 19 game points led the Lady Buffs, who led from their opening basket but saw Chatham chip away at a double-digit lead that was cut to 27-18 at the half and down to even fewer points at times in the second.
Belshan ended any doubt of a Floyd victory, however, with a six-point run in the closing minutes and the Lady Buffs were back up to a 15 point lead that extended to a 17 point by by the game’s end.
She wasn’t alone in double-figure scoring. Michaela Thompson had 13 points and Cassidy Pratt 11. Five Lady Buffs scored three-point goals.
Floyd faces defending state champion Ridgeview Friday at James River High School — a return match between the two teams from last year in the state semi-finals.
