A scramble to avoid rain and cooler temperatures on Locust Street in Floyd.

For a while, it seemed like the warmth of Spring was upon us.

Actually, it was more like the warmth of Summer.

Now it’s cold again.

Temperatures dropped into the 30s overnight.  Frost advisories showed up in weather forecasts.

What the hell happened?

“With more blocking high pressure near Greenland than we have seen in months, cooler air masses are more wedged into the East than they have been in quite some time,” writes weather guru Kevin Myatt of The Roanoke Times.

Myatt calls this a “blackberry winter pattern,” created by a cold vortex of low pressure in the East and one in the West creating chilly bookends for the time being with cooler than normal temperatures and rain.

Oh well, Spring was nice while it lasted.  The “low” a week ago as 67.  The high this past weekend was 61 and the wind made it feel a lot colder.

Things may start to warm up as the week progresses but keep a jacket handy along with an umbrella.  Monday may be the only dry day this week.
