Bernie Coveney’s smile is the first thing you notice. It’s far more boyish than you expect from a man of his age. It’s also infectious.
Coveney is a guitarist, a damn good one. He used to play with Emmylou Harris and that’s the kind of gig any guitar player would love to have on their resume. Nowadays he plays mostly with the Abe Goorskey Trio. Abe is a student, a mandolin player and singer. Chris Luster on bass makes up the rest of the trio. Bernie’s work on the guitar is pure magic.

Just saw this today. I was stationed at the army base in Virginia Beach in 66/67 and went to the Upstairs most weekends during that period. I think about it quite often. Can someone list the performers that were at the reunion? Most of them at the time were solo performers.

I saw/heard Berney Coveney and Chris Luster at the Folk Ghetto/Upstairs Coffee House Reunion in Virginia Beach last weekend. Bernie was pretty good thirty five years ago with Group Nine, but he just keeps gettin’ better. I’m looking forward to the new CD, Duets or Duets with Friends. Thanks Bernie! Billy
Those of you who missed it, really missed it! Everyone at the reunion was in high spirits and in tune, resulting in a great deal of fun! My wife Nancy, never having known a soul associated with the Ghetto/Upstairs, had a wonderful time and is looking forward to a repeat! So, friends, lets do it again!
