At the time it seemed like the perfect plan. The Floyd County Board of Supervisors usually always breaks for lunch at 11:30 a.m.  and returns two hours later at 1:30 a.m.

That would give me plenty of time to have Amy drive me over to New River Valley Harley-Davidson to pick up my Super Glide and ride it back to Floyd.

But this wasn’t a normal board meeting. A morning executive session combined with a longer than usual public comment period pushed the morning session to noon and the schedule this month called for the board to return at 1 p.m. — not enough time to run to Christiansburg.

To make matters worse, the spring on one side of our garage door picked this day to break so Amy had to work the phones to find a repair service that could come up and replace the spring on a 20-year-old garage door opener. She did but I had to just enough time to take care of a couple of errands and get back to the board, which took a break a little later in the day just in time for me to drive home and run Amy to work before returning to the evening budget review session, after which I had to get back home and write three stories for deadline.

So my bike is still in Christiansburg and it’s raining for the next two days.

Maybe Friday.
