FloydFest X sold out for both Friday and Saturday. Some hoping to enter the festival Friday were turned away because the event was maxed out for the day.
You could tell this year’s festival was a success by the long lines at Floyd’s only traffic light. Vehicles on Friday morning backed up down Main Street to the Exxon station and past Schoolhouse Fabrics on Locust Street.
Those with tickets braved the heat to crowd into the festival site just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick County. With temperatures edging towards 100, patrons coveted shade and the cooling effects of water sprinklers.
Frank and Joyce Eddings drove from Indiana for FloydFest. They settled for breakfast at the Blue Ridge Restaurant Friday morning after finding out no more tickets were available for Friday or Saturday.
“I guess we should have bought tickets in advance,” Frank said. “We screwed up.”
Although some tickets are still available for Sunday both had to be back at work on Monday and couldn’t stay.
“We had planned to spend Friday and Saturday here and head back on Sunday morning,” Joyce said.
Thursday night’s events — which included a performance by the Old Crow Medicine Band drew more than 9,000 people — a record for a first night.
The festival continues through Sunday.
