Last day to pay real estate taxes

The tax man cometh today or rather the tax check goeth — out the door.

Real estate taxes for the first half of 2010 are due today. Technically, they were due two days ago (June 5) but because that was a Saturday, Floyd County taxpayers have a grace period over the weekend. As long as you pay in person, pay on-line or mail the check with a postmark of June 7, you taxes are considered paid in a timely fashion.

Miss the deadline and you get socked with a 10 percent penalty on the amount due and then 10 percent a year until paid.

As the ad for Rid-X, the septic tank treatment, claims: “You can pay us now or pay us later.”
