The Spring and Summer music season is underway in Floyd and that means a wide variety of offerings — often outdoors at venues like the Hotel Floyd, Pine Tavern and Oak Grove Pavilion at Zion Lutheran Church.
Saturday night’s offering featured BCR — shorthand for Bernie Coveney, Chris Luster and Rob Neukirsh with their blend of old, new, traditional, folk and popular. Local musical mainstay Janet Turner joined them on stage for several numbers that proved popular with the crowd.
The musical evening came on a day when the oppressive heat of the past week took break and pleasant weather provided a comfortable backdrop for the musicians and attendees.
Turner and Floyd were recently featured in a New York Times article about the Crooked Road. Her band, Janet Turner & Friends, is a mainstay at the Friday Night Jamboree and she is appearing more and more frequently as a guest with other acts. Bernie, Chris and Rob, of course, are popular figures on Floyd’s music circuit.
Oak Grove’s concerts are free, although buckets are passed during intermission for donations. Hotel Floyd’s Thursday Night Concert Series is also free and the free music on the streets of Floyd on Friday nights is one of town’s delights.
Let the music play and enjoy the summer.
